The first step on a new path

Once in a while, you get to revisit a place that was familiar to you. A place that meant a lot. Sometimes it is just as you remembered it, but more often it has changed and parts of it you valued, counted on, are simply gone.

Blogging is like that for me. I started with a very simple blog. It was a way of waving to the world and saying "I'm here". Then the creative muse took me by the hand and persuaded me to write and go on writing. And yet it was no longer a blog, it had become poetry. And poetry asked for a different place to stay. So I gave it a website. After a while I started to add my favourite photos - not ones I had collected from other people, but ones I had taken.

Then changes happened. The creative muse left. I found other ways of storing photos - though in truth the sharing was still difficult. Technology changed, too. A friend persuaded me to try Facebook - but not as a way of sharing, but as a way of playing an online game - Scrabble, believe it or not. After a couple of moves, she got bored. After a while waiting for her to play her turn, I got bored, too. And so life moved on. I came back to Facebook after a while - this time as a way to keep in touch with friends from a summer activity. I'm still there, looking, reading, reacting, sometimes enjoying links.

A couple of weeks ago, I was reading someone else's blog and by chance my eye rested on a link - a link to something I had forgotten. When I clicked a couple of times I found myself back on my old blog. I hadn't thought about it for years. It didn't occur to me what the login might be and yet, here it was. Just the way I had keft it.

So I started to revisit my past. My posts, my thoughts, my fears. And then I spotted a link to that old website where I had stored my poems and some of my photos. Once again, a click... and then disappointment. The website had gone; replaced by an error message from a company I had never heard of. A company that wanted money to retrieve my old pages.

A few days passed. I stumbled on another posting, which in turn led me to Wix. So, here I am. Exploring what this world might offer. Who knows what comes next? I don't. Let's see.
